Doin' Fine 04:19
Doin’ Fine © 1999 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP I want to run, run, run, run, run until I run out of room. I want to quit before it gets too late but never too soon. I want to bet my meager fortune on a loser who’s been lagging behind Cause I believe down in my marrow that a loser can get lucky sometimes. CHORUS: But then your love, love, love, love, love comes drivin’ me crazy. Little by little in the middle of losin’ my mind. You make me stumble when I’m walkin’, I mumble when I’m talkin’ about you. In all this bitchin’ and a cryin’, for a man that’s slowly dyin’, I’m doin’ fine. I went down, down, down, down, down till my heart broke the fall. I could see the bottom comin’ but that didn’t change what happened at all. So I brushed off all the sorrow and the pity that my pain would allow, I’ve never given up on love and I be damned if I’ll consider it now. (CHORUS) I ought to fly, fly, fly, fly, fly, I ought to fly like the wind. I’d be the fool beyond forgiving if I ever let you do this again. But then you tease my bankrupt body with a little of your counterfeit love. Even though I know it’s worthless that’s the reason I can’t get enough. (CHORUS)

Any Less Gone © 1991 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP She was my lover and she was my friend. My constant companion right up to the end. She left for no reason, no reason she told me, But that don’t make her any less gone. I often fall victim to burning desire. She holds the passion to throw on my fire. She left for no reason, no reason she told me, But that don’t make her any less gone. She’s gone with the wind. Melted like snow. She knows how I love her so how could she go? She walked out the door and ran like the rain. She took all the love and left me insane. So I spit at the moon and I scream at the night. I cuss at the sun for burning so bright. She left for no reason, no reason she told me, But that don’t make her any less gone. She’s gone with the wind. Melted like snow. She knows how I love her so how could she go? She walked out the door and ran just like the rain. She took all the happiness and left all the pain. So I show off my sorrows like professional dancers And I suck on this bottle like it holds all the answers. She left for no reason, no reason she told me, But that don’t make her any less gone. She left for no reason, no reason she told me, But that don’t make her any less gone.

Ain't Life Strange © 1979 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP Well, my lip hurts and my feet are flat and my education’s small There’s some folks down on the corner who don’t care for me at all. My momma said that she once read where a man had broke his back When he stopped to tie his tennis shoe in front of a Cadillac. CHORUS: Ain't life strange? Here we go a spinnin’ with the seasons. It’s all small change when you finally separate the rhymes and reasons. And if you don’t know by now if I’m the one you want Then I guess I’ll have to be the one you don’t. My dog died by the roadside with a wild hair in her head Thinkin’ to pitch a car in the ditch but she ended up there instead. Well there aint much truth when your lyin’ around on a cold December day Just lookin’ out your window tryin’ to see the forest but the trees get in your way. (CHORUS) I don’t recall last night at all it must have been something I drunk. The left front tire on my car is flat and I can’t find the key to the trunk. Some days are good; some days are bad and some days you just break even. There’s some mornin’s when I wake up surprised that I’m still breathin’. LAST CHORUS: Ain't life strange? Here we go a spinnin’ with the seasons. It’s all small change when you finally separate the rhymes and reasons. And if you don’t know by now if I’m the one you want Then I guess I’ll have to be the one, you know I’ll be the only one, I guess I’ll have to be the one you don’t.

She 04:49
She © 2007 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP There are devils out there dancing in the darkness. You better beware, there are demons of the daylight, too. Oh Lordy I swear, there’s no rest for the wicked And that sets Molly smilin’ devil may care. CHORUS: Can’t you see her standing in the door way Teasin’ with the zipper of your dreams? Molly’s not an evil child, just an angel goin’ wild And She is all you ever want and all you ever will. There’s a shadow of doubt and a hint of mild suspicion. She’s been struttin’ about and layin’ where she ought not lay. She’ll fumble and pout when she drags home in the mornin’ to take you without warnin’ and empty you out. She gives you love that’s twice as hard as whiskey And makes your heart go stagger in your chest. Molly’s eyes will drink you down And you would gladly drown ‘Cause She is all you ever want and all you ever will. Like a thief in the night she steals in soft and silent. Like a beacon of light callin’ from a far, dark shore, You’ll tumble in tight when Molly’s lips are callin’. Heels to head you’re fallin’ from a terrible height. Don’t you dare get caught in Molly’s shadow. The bitter frost is more than you can stand. But you’ll embrace the cold Long enough to singe your soul ‘Cause She is all you ever want and all you ever will.

The More I Hurt (The Less I Feel) © 1996 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP It’s a little bit odd, no; it’s a whole lot weird. The whole damn thing is stranger than I feared. Like snow in hell when they called for rain Lovin’ you is a whole new kind of pain. CHORUS: It’s a work of art in black and blue. You didn’t break my heart but it sure did bruise. It’ll take the blows but my heart won’t heal Heaven knows the more I hurt the less I feel. I saw your face and then I fell. Took a flyin’ leap down in a deep, dark well. Swam love so thick that I could not see. Now look at what I let you do to me. (CHORUS) I can’t blame you ‘cause I let you in, Confused by lyin’ eyes and an honest grin. Gave away my soul to a strong desire, You fanned the spark that set my world on fire. (CHORUS)

Baby Blues 04:01
Baby Blues © 2004 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP You know I love my Baby. Need that woman so. But every time I turn my head my Baby’s on the go. She was gone again this mornin’ so I got nothin’ left to lose. Got them too deep for consolin’ Holy rock and rollin’ Baby Blues. Baby gave her body to a rock and roll guitar. Says it don’t mean nothin’ but she always goes too far. I have seen her grind at midnight dancin’ loke a burnin’ fuse. Got them too deep for consolin’ Holy rock and rollin’ Baby Blues. Baby found religion, swears that God has brought her to her knees. She don’t know jazz from Jesus its just that preacher man she’s tryin’ to please. Is it sex or true salvation? You know those two are eaisly confused. Got them too deep for consolin’ Holy rock and rollin’ Baby Blues. When lives of desperation meet lives of discontent You can bet that some poor fool will get his feelin’s bent. You can keep your dime-store pity I got all that I can use. Got them too deep for consolin’ Holy rock and rollin’ Baby Blues. Got them too deep for consolin’ Holy rock and rollin’ Baby Blues.

Fell In Love With You © 1996 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP From the first time that I saw your face I found my future but I lost my place. You stole my heart without a single trace And though I knew what it might do I fell in love with you. So I chased you till I could not walk. I screamed your name until I could not talk. My whole world crumbled like a piece of chalk And though I knew what it could do I fell in love with you. I fell in love so strong I never questioned why. There was no right or wrong, only do or die Only do or die. Like those addicted who just cannot cope For every user there’s a perfect dope. The needle sharp with love and filled with hope, My heart screamed any vein would do, so I fell in love with you. My heart screamed any vein would do, so I fell in love with you. I fell in love with you.

Evil, Wicked Man © 2010 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP Stealin' nickels from the needy and pennies from the poor I spend it all on things that make me smile. Then I gamble odds & evens they don't make it through the season. I ain't lost a wager in a while. Then I suck on sour stones till it filters to my bones And pretty soon my marrow starts to churn. It cranks my mischief maker and lubricates my shaker And I can feel that naughty boy return. I'm an evil, evil wicked man. I'm a spider, I'm a weasel, I'm a snake. Spreadin' my wicked, wicked evil plans. All the corruption and the chaos I can make. If you're needin' somethin' nasty from way beyond the pail I deliver sin like no one can. If you crave forbidden fruit, accept no substitute. I'm a wicked, evil - evil wicked man. Best hide your wives and daughters if you see me on the street I'm handsome, I'm horny and I'm slick. Although they swear they're faithful I'm witty and I'm playful So I'm the lesser evil that they pick. I can charm the thorny roses into bold and naked poses When ever I can find a friendly patch. When I pull back on the petals and the dew mist finally settles My gentle hand knows just where to scratch. Taking candy from a baby is what I did for fun. Now I like to hide a cripple's crutch. They tumble to the ground. They crawl and roll around A sight that always tickles me so much. I can conger magic although it's usually tragic For anyone around who isn't me. Misfortune tastes like honey, deception spends like money And sorrow sets my inner demons free.

One Of Those Days © 2009 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP Sometimes I wibble, sometimes I just don't know. Sometimes I wibble, sometimes I go real slow. Got my motor runnin' I just can't get the wheels to roll. Look out here comes trouble. You better keep your eye on me. When what I need is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. There ain't much that I won't do to rise right up and fly on through And, Lord, I get the feelin' it's gonna be one of those days. Sometimes I wobble, sometimes I fall right down. Sometimes I wobble, sometimes I kiss the ground. Sometimes in the mornin' I wake up in the lost and found. Look out here comes trouble. You better keep your eye on me. When what I need is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. There ain't much that I won't do to rise right up and fly on through And, Lord, I get the feelin' it's gonna be one of those days. Sometimes I sizzle, sometimes I strut my stuff. Sometimes I sizzle, sometimes I'm cool-cat rough. Some days, Little Darlin', it's better not to call my bluff. Look out here comes trouble. You better keep your eye on me. When what I need is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. There ain't much that I won't do to rise right up and fly on through And, Lord, I get the feelin' it's gonna be one of those days.

Nevernamed 05:23
Nevernamed © 2010 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP Wish I had a quarter. Wish I had a dime Just wish I had a nickel for every single time I counted on magic or made foolish wishes. I would be a man of untold riches. But I would give you half so we could run away And maybe live to wish another day. We'd live our dreams, our plans and schemes, Those bright, bold things that we dare. Funny how the future is always in the past. Tragic how the moment just never seems to last. It's smoke through your fingers. Like water through sand. Those precious day will never come again. So we live our lives with some style & grace And figure out we're not just here to take up space. We live & learn. Lust & burn We love & yearn in despair. Going down the mountain from Boone to Sugar Grove. Huntin' for the Holler back up in the Cove. Lookin' for a woman, Sister of the Moon And somewhere I can sit and play a tune. Then we'll wash our woes in the ancient creek And feel the stones of time underneath our feet. We'll laugh and swing - dance and sing Till joy takes wing with our care.

Higher Ground © 2006 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP You read the morning paper and you listen to the news. Watch the television just tryin’ to find some clues. Lookin’ for the reason that we ever let it go so far. Was it the lyric of the language that caused you to believe? Or did you just convince yourself you couldn’t be deceived? The difference doesn’t matter now ‘cause this is where we are. CHORUS: Dogs are barkin’ but the birds ain’t singin’. Lights are flashin’ and the warnin’ bells are ringin’. Can’t you feel the danger in the mighty storm that’s bearin' down? The day is dark, the sky is heavy - I hear the river on the topside of the levee So you better get your children to the safety of some higher ground. A clever cut of fiction will substitute for truth. The faithful here among us will never ask for proof And always be respectful when arrogance is on display. Watch what you are thinkin’, be careful who you doubt. It ain’t exactly treason but Lord, it’s just about. If fear is all we have to fear the time has come to be afraid. (CHORUS) When a bolt of hatred strikes and terror rolls again Blame it on the different or the color of the skin. Fan the foolish anger into a wind like none before. 'Cause it’s neighbor verses neighbor where they’re tradin’ teeth and eyes For a hand-me-down religion with a scripture laced with lies. The tempest that we’ve conjured up is just about to come ashore. (CHORUS)

You Can Have My Heart © 2003 Music and Lyrics T. Scott Smith MadDog Music ~ ASCAP I’ve been runnin’ like a river but I haven’t gotten far. I’ve been hopin’ for a miracle and wishin’ on a star. And when my life is over I’ll know just who to blame, On the stone above my body they will carve the scoundrel’s name. CHORUS: So surprise me with a hungry kiss, I need to feel that spark. It’s been too long a lonely time to smolder in the dark. Just let the demons gain control or Jesus Christ can take my soul but, Darlin’, you can have my heart, yes you can have my heart. I’ve been holdin’ it together with a promise and a prayer. I thought I held the answer but I’m leakin’ everywhere. Searchin’ for the reason but the reason can’t be found. Now everything that I believe is soakin’ in the ground. (CHORUS) I stagger when I’m drinkin’ and I stumble when I’m stoned. Everybody tells me I should leave that stuff alone. The more I think about it, the more I think of you ‘cause I never have been faithful but I always have been true. (CHORUS)

LINER NOTES:

FROM THE ARTIST:
This collection is dedicated to my wife Pat, longsuffering, ever-loving, and always got my back. Special Thanks to Andy Owens, Cameron Owens, Elijah Davenport, Leon Nelson, Polly Lorien, Tony Reece, Shannon Boyd, Pete & Kim McWhirter, and Cathy Owens for their time and belief in this project.

Sugar Grove, NC

FROM THE PRODUCER:
My buddy Tim Smith is a sick man, in oh so many ways. Fortunately, we’re both crazy and that’s how we got this project done, sick humor, black humor, daily MediMixes to keep both our spirits and momentum going. Not often as a producer do you get handed a set of twelve great songs and the mission to just “do what you feel fits the songs best.” What a great, trusting man Tim is to hand me that wonderful gift. Tim wasn’t able to get out to the studio much, but it was so fun when he was able to come, to see his face when a track would start and he wouldn’t know what the song was until the lyrics began, his eyes would light up and he would look down and chuckle as he always does, and my heart would soar.

Tim is my hero, mentor, sick humor buddy and one of the most giving and artistic and hard working people I’ve ever known. Tim thinks me making this record and putting it out is a gift from me, but he’s got it all wrong: it has been a wonderful pleasure and honor to help him bring these great songs to you. Enjoy — this kind of songwriter doesn’t come along every day.
—Andy Owens
Deep Gap, NC

FROM A LIFETIME MUSICIAN FRIEND:
Whether he’s throwing meat cleaver lyrics into your funny bone or pitching delicate love ballads into your lap, Tim Smith is a craftsman at songwriting. The songs on this CD are his handpicked selection from the hundreds he has penned over the years. Tim has nurtured musicians, hosted regular concert events and provided inspiration to a host of music lovers. His annual events with names like The Hippie Happening, The Holler Waller, and HollerWeen are attended by musicians and fans from five states. These events are magical celebrations of music, food and life with generations of families and eclectic musicians. I am honored to introduce Tim Smith and his first CD of incredibly strong songs.
